5 reasons to travel to Chad

While Chad has several risk factors as far as tourism is concerned, it’s a beautiful Northern Central African County with so many amazing things to see. Besides being a hotspot for wildlife, Chad is full of beautiful landscapes, culture, and fun activities.

However, you should note that Chad is no place for the faint-hearted – it has a fairly bad reputation as far as safety is concerned. Anyway, if you wish to pursue your journey to Chad, here are a few places worth checking out.

  1. Zakouma National Park

For wildlife enthusiasts, Chad is a rich territory as far as wildlife is concerned. In the southern part of the country, you’ll find the Zakouma National Park, a prime location for wildlife. Here, you will see some of the best wildlife such as Buffalos, lions, giraffes, elephants, tiang, Lelwel’s hartebeest, cheetah, hyena, leopards, and roan antelope, among others.

As well, there are over 370 species of birds to see. You’ll find the Sudan-Guinea Savanna species as well as the Sahel Biome species, such as the Savilles bustards, niam parrots, and black-rumped. The perfect season for wildlife is in the summer. There are also several restaurants and hotels in the camping grounds, offering fantastic game viewing spots.

  1. Lakes of Ounianga

Found in the Sahara Desert, the Lakes of Ouianga features 18 lakes – all contributed by the subterranean fossil water. If you love nature, you’ll love this exceptional landscape that cokes with striking shapes and shades.

The lake’s colors are also beautiful, featuring blue, green, and red colors – color change is often caused by chemical composition changes in the sand, salty soil, and microorganisms. The lakes of Ounianga is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2012. Some of the lakes offer drinkable water, while others are saline.

  1. Tibesti Mountains

For adventure lovers, you’ll love what Chad has to offer. The Tibesti Mountains are a group of inactive volcanic mountains and a famous tourist destination in Chad. The Loftiest Mountain is the Emi Koussi Mountain, featuring 3,500 miles above sea level.

The jagged peaks are a perfect option for experienced climbers looking for an exceptional hiking experience. For non-climbers, there are numerous activities to do, such as watching camel racing, enjoying hot springs, viewing ancient rock paintings, and much more.

  1. Cultural Diversity

As far as tradition and culture are concerned, Chad won’t disappoint. Chad features more than 120 languages with colorful camel trains of nomadic pastoralists. You should check out some of the local events such as weddings, markets, and horse races to experience the best of the Chad culture and traditions.

  1. Chad National Museum

Officially known as the Musee National N’Djamena, the Chad National Museum is a perfect place to learn about the traditions and history of Chad. It was established in 1962, with four major exhibits, including prehistory, archives, protohistory, and folk arts/traditions.

In the museum, you’ll find fascinating artifacts, folk arts, and medieval items such as implements, helve-holed exes, and stone heads from ancient ages. Another attention-drawer to the museum is the Skull of Toumai Man and the modern Sculpture of tribesman.
